hi can anyone help me, we have now just had fitted the double electrics, on the car, and we have a bailey ranger 500/5, do we need to have the master switch 'on' (the switch by the door) to enable it to charge the battery and freeze the fridge whilst travelling
Hi Palin1963. We have a Senator, which is wired similar to yours. I just plug in and go(after switching the fridge to 12volts). If your car is wired correctly, the van will "look after itself" via the habitation relay
we are new to the caravan lark after having had a camper, where do you switch the fridge to 12 volts on the fridge or is it situ elsewhere, or is the mains switch by the door the 12v switch you are talking about
You switch the fridge to 12V at the fridge. It is then powered by the towing car when driving. At no point will the fridge ever run from the caravan battery. Its either mains, tow car or gas operated. The caravans 12v circuits are disabled whilst towing anyway!
i have the 500/5 a 2003 model.when you want the fridge to charge on 12v (red) switch the 12v switch to on and the 230v (green) one off.set the fridge on to about 5 or 6.it will not start to charge until a certain number of revs is reached by the engine.leave the outside covers on it cools quicker.to give the freezer a kick start add some frozen products before you go.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
hahaha thats what i meant, although probably didnt come across that way,
so if leccy goes down on site, and battery is okay, should the lights automatically kick in, if there is a power failure, or do i need to switch anything over for them

no if the electric goes you will need to run the fridge on gas.the lights apart from the front ones will operate on the battery.the main switch for the lights is as you enter the door and your 12v switch must be on to do this.

what year is your 500/5? .if its the same as ours on your right as you get to the front of the van,you have the tv socket and a mains switch with socket,a mains switch for the heating, just under the dial for the battery amp gauge there are two switches one is the pump switch and the other the 12 volt switch.the 12v switch must be on all the time for the lights.pump.and the water heater when using gas. the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

ours is a 2007 model , no as we go into the caravan we have a pad on the wall on the left with the battery amp gauge at the top of the pad then/ lights/pump and master switch on it. i presume this master switch when on is the one that allows lights to run of the battery.
