        Anyone used an old sky box and dish in the caravan, and dose it work ok.

   Thanks my daughter has just upgraded to Sky HD (i think) and no longer needs the old box or dish, i am on a season pitch so if i set the dish up and connect the box it should work,with the aid of the sat finder.

Provided you have a valid sky card or freesat card, yes.

I bought a sat finder against the advice of the manager of the Maplins at preston,he was right,found the signal better without the sat finder.

You can receive a lot of channels without any card eg BBC and ITV and channel 4, you need a freesat card for channel5, Sky3 and one or two others.

I think the top notch professional sat finders that the pros use must be OK, but the cheapies that you can buy on Ebay are worse than useless.  

I have a sat finder and did (try to) use it but it took take me forever to lock in the signal - sometimes I gave up after about half an hour and came back later to try again (after I'd cooled down).  More recently, I've just set the dish around 40deg east of south to start with, used the digibox signal test page to check whether we've got a decent signal level & quality and have locked in the correct satellite - and move the dish towards south a tiny bit at a time.   In that way, I can get a picture in less than 5 minutes, every time.

You really do not need a sat finder - just a decent compass!!

Get a sat kit from Lidl,  everything you need except the  TV. for around £65. this box is fantastic and easy to set up with the very compact and small dish, the box has its own built in signal finder both visual and audio,  also the box can be tuned to any of the satelites up there, I have used mine all the way down to Spain, and ALL BBC, ITV CH4 & 5  are available. in Spain I do have to use a bigger dish (I use a series 2 sky dish) ok the box does NOT have a slot for a card.. so no sky pay  programs,.. but who wants to pay for TV anyway? and if your into sport most of the big events are available on some satellite some where, so tune to another one,

A sky digibox will work just fine.

And the sat kit from lidl is lousy.

Trust me on this!
