My brother has put up his awning for first time new to caravaning before he put it up he sprayed rail and the bit of awning where you thread it through rail with WD40 the rain has just poured in through seals what can he do second hand van and awning. if he gets a porch awning will rain come through seals as well he at end of his tether. june

Crikey didn't realise WD40 did that? Would you be able to re waterproof the awning? I'm sure someone on here will have the answer.

you should never use wd40 on the awning rail always spray silicone based furniturne polish in there ...you must wash the awning with warm water and a little washing up liquid let it dry for 24 hours and use a fabric resealer/reproofer spray from a caravan /camping outlet ..all will be ok then ..hopefully

We always use Thetford toilet maintenance spray, you can use for many things in the caravan including awning rails, toilet seals of course, door hinges etc. Not very expensive to buy and does not take up a lot of room or weight in your caravan.

wash it all off with clean warm water and towels do not use soap of any king.you can buy awning cleaner and re-proofer from here.i did an old porch awning and its fine no leaks.

Make sure you clean it all off the awning rail as well as off the awning.

did here about a man who bought his little girl a bubble mix to blow bubbles with,all the bubbles were settling onto the top of the awning.next time they used it it was leaking in a few places on the roof.only hear say yes but makes you think.
