Hi

Quite new to caravanning and am planning to travel from Barrow in Furness to York. Does anyone have any advice on route - especially last bit? Would it be best to go through Harrogate (Knaresborough) or to take the more the route through Otley and onto the A659?

And does anyone know of a good place to pull in about half way along that is easy to get in and out of with van ont back so I can let the kids run around a bit and blow off steam!

thanks guys

Chris the A65 is probably the most obvious route for you because of you location and i have towed along it but it does require a degree of caution especially for the first 10 miles or so after you cross the M6 as it can be somewhat narrow especially if you meet HGV's just after Kirkby Lonsdale there is a Layby with a snackbar and big parking area where you could stop . I would personally go straight through Harrogate to York

You will be fine going down the A65 its a litttle narrow from J36 Crooklands through Lupton but fine from Kirkby Lonsdale. You could stop at the Anchor Inn at Gargrave they have a large car park, easy to get in & out, have a brew whilst kids enjoy their play area for half hour. There are also plenty of large laybys along the A59 between Skipton & Harrogate. Take your time coming down Blubberhouses its not too narrow but the are some sharp bends & a lot of HGVs.

Enjoy your trip to York, we have always had an excellent time there.

Thanks for your replies

The anchor at Gargrave sounds good as it is about halfway. Thanks for the tip on blubberhouses - I remember going down that once on a trip way back and it is quite windy.

cheers
