If running off of gas make sure you have removed the outside vent cover and I think for some models you have to have your 12v auxilary power on.. Also make sure the tank is full of water before you turn heater on for both gas and electric.
they can take some time for the gas to purge , as above check there is enough gas, and the cover is removed from out side,if its not been used for some time it will need to be purged, just keep trying it until it lights.

Assuming its a truma ultrastore, you need to remove the outside cowl if running on gas.
We had same problem on a Cascade 2 heater, turned out not to be burner or gas related, the on - off 12 volt switch had gone faulty, thankfully this was easy to fit and sourced on ebay second hand for a modest cost
The problem was identifying the problem we got lucky, a caravanner next to us said try my switch and see if it works !! and to our great relief it did, you would have thought we had won the pools.

If you cant do someone a good turn, don`t do them a bad one,its nice to be nice you know, and little things mean much more later in life.

Hi I have just purchased a swift challenger 540 ,I have looked thought the instuction manual which came with the caravan but (i may be a bit thick here) but I cant seemed to work out if there is a 240 volts supply for the water hearter or just gas and if there is how the hell do u switch it on ?
there should be a switch spur to turn on, i think its set at a fixed temp so you can not adjust on electric only ajustable on gas. you could trace wires from it to locate the switch.
