Having had our caravan stolen recently we are now looking for a replacement.
Anybody out there know if we buy a caravan from another part of the country that is still under warrenty with the caravan maker. Can we have the caravan serviced nearer home and the warrenty stand? Or will we have to travel back to the dealer where the van was purchased new if any problems show themselves?
Bailey have listed on their website dealers that are authorised to carry out transient warranty claims (which I have done). Not sure about other manufacturers. Any used caravan warranty could be limited to the supplying dealer.
We bought our caravan in 2006 from a London show, and the dealer was Barrons in Kent whom we purchased it from at the show, we had to collect it from Barrons, but ever since we have been getting warranty repairs and servicing in our local Bailey dealership, the only reason why we purchased from the show, was it was about £900 cheaper than our local dealership, but we have never had any trouble getting warranty repairs, we have had a new door, and they are going to replace the end panel, all done in warranty.
I bought my caravan privately as an 8 month old van. I contacted swift and transferred the warranty into my name. I was told that the warranty still stands providing it has its annual service by an NCC approved workshop - this also includes mobile servicing providing the service book is NCC stamped. Any warranty work would need to be done at one of their approved workshops but it didn't have to be the one it was purchased from.
We transferred the warranty on a Swift Transtar. An easy operation but you have to be quick as the window of opportunity is quite short.
We were lucky to find a dealer who would take on the warranty work, although in theory it should not be a problem, some of the work times allowed are a bit tight so dealers are a bit loath to take on this work if you didn't buy the van from them in the first place.
