4 different types would be better (one on each wheel), Depends how long you want to take removing & storing the security items each time you want to go away.
Wheelclamps are quite heavy & bulky items to carry.
If at home i would consider a ground anchor & a good 16mm+ chain around the axle. Would entail crawling under the van to fit it but at least a thief would not be able to use bolt croppers under there.
I would check to see waht is on your insurance company approved list, as this will help to reduce your premium a bit.
No harm in adding more than they specify, just depends on the balance between the inconvenience of time to lock unlock and the inconvenience of your van getting nicked, no brainer, the more the better
------------- Gosh, is it that time already, must fly
I all ready had the nemesis in mind and was thinking of having another lock on the same side of the van to lock both axles. would you recommend 2 nemesis or a nemesis plus a cheaper lock.
also what hitch lock do you recommend for an explorer van?
thanks again
Mike
If it'll take an Al-Ko lock I suggest you seriously consider fitting them. We had a so called good clamp on our last van, it was reoved & thrown in my neighbours hedge, the clamp resembled a twisted pipe cleaner when it was found. I understand the Al-Ko is very good & we have one on our new van.
In addition to the Al-Ko lock, we have two leglocks & the van is hitched to a 4 foot long RSJ set in 24 inches of concrete & the jockey wheel is removed. If they get this one away they'll have to work for it.
Hi i am getting a new van next weekend and need to get some decent security for it. I have been watching these threads over the last while and am unsure whether to get something like the nemisis wheel clamp or fork out the extra and go for the alko wheel lock.
What i wat to know is it worth spending the extra or go for something like the nemisis.
I will also have an alko hitchlock, corner steady locks and an alarm that comes with the van fitted.
Ive noted basilbrushes comments and any other would be greatly appreciated.
We have the Nemises a very good wheel clamp, but... it's very heavy and bulky. It's starting to get on my nerves now especially when it's raining....(raining not seen that in a long time) lol.
The Alkos are pretty good, if you have a twin you do need to jack it up, at least for the second wheel.
If you have a mover you can easily line up one wheel. If you don't want to jack, then you need something different for the second wheel.
We have a sloping drive and thought we could not jack, so we fitted one Alko and a Nemesis, which we found to be good. Now OH has worked out a way to jack safely we use both the Alkos.
When we are away we take the Alkos, not too heavy and very neat.
I would agree you need to see what your insurance demands. We are with the CC, they only demand one form...so either wheel or hitch lock. But they give good discounts for the Alko wheel lock, an alarm, tilt sensor, and tracker. You can then decide what to do....pay a higher premium or spend money on security.
Some insurers demand much higher levels of security before they will insure you at all, so check before you buy.
