Whilst travelling yesterday to Helmsley the towing electric cables must of dragged on the floor and appear to have severed a couple of the wires. Is there any connectors available to fix the wires and are they available at caravan shops or any other solutions? I need to fix it before we travel home tommorow.
I would imagine standard block connectors would probably do the job 'til you get home. They're available from most diy places.i would put some insulating tape around the connectors then to avoid any moisture getting in.

You'll be able to get some connectors & heat shrink from Halfords or a local motor factors. I did the same years ago on our old van. When we got home, I bought a new length of cable, fitted the plug & traced the cable back into the cravan front box where I simply made a drawing & marking the location of the coloured wires & replaced old with new. I don't know if I saved myself much by doing it myself, an hours labour I guess.
It is a 2 minute job with a couple of crimp connectors which you can get from B&Q, Halfords etc. I would put a bit of heatshrink or electrical tape over the temporary repair.
When you get home you will be best to replace the cable.
we did the same thing last year on our way to york we called in to a b&q got some block connectors and electric tape did the job and learnt us a lesson. hope you get it sorted for your journey home.

I did the same a couple of months ago just as we were setting off on holiday. I just unscrewed the plug and trimmed the wires back one at a time (so that I knew which hole they went into) it also shortened the cable to stop it dragging again Then if your not happy with it replace the whole cable when you get home As above with coiled ones as they are so much better (that's why trucks only use coiled ones)
Hi thanks for the replies. I bought some block connectors and have connected the wiring again as a temporary repair. It is a fairly new caravan so I don`t know what to do next. Does anyone know how much it cost at the dealers to get the wiring repaired and would it void the warranty if I fitted the coiled type myself?
How is it whenever I come away in the caravan I seem to make some mistake. Talk about learning from my mistakes. Mind I didn`t hook the caravan up any differently to how I usually do and have never had this problem before. I certainly won`t be letting it happen again.
Surely in this day and age of remote controls, mobile communications and wireless broadband, the time has come for wireless caravans!
Seriously though, the electrical connections between tow vehicle and van are like something out of the ark - even the new 13-pin connectors don't change that.

Trucks are still connected to their trailers the same way, as they were when I 1st started driving them 31 years ago Although they did move to the coil connectors some years ago
would it void the warranty if I fitted the coiled type myself?
please ask its not worth the risk of loosing your warranty.did same on a breakaway cable one time cost me a fortune.had to get one made at a boat yard charged £9.50,you can buy one for £3.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

My husband was advised on a towing course to twist the 12N & 12S cables together before fitting them to the car. This prevents them from dragging on the floor, although you must remember that there must be enough slack for the unit to turn corners!
