Sorry but I just have to share my excitement else I'll burst......my dream is about to come true and we're picking up our caravan on Friday from Berkshire Caravans. It's a Bailey Ranger 460/4 and it's only a year old. I've wanted a caravan for years and after tents, folding campers and back to a tent again I can't believe at long last my OH has decided that it's about time we gave up all that 'faffing about' with setting up and packing away - we always said we'd wait to get a 'van until we could afford something almost new and with a fixed bed - so hurray!!!
We're hoping to use it throughout the year for weekends and for main holidays and am soooooo (very) pleased not to have to worry all through my holiday about wet pack ups any more! I'm a little bit apprehensive about OH towing but he says it'll be fine (we've got a Toyota Avensis estate 1.8) and the Ranger's a lightweight (and the weights are all OK) and I'm sure when we've been out a couple of times I'll feel more relaxed about it.
Anyway, mustn't ramble on anymore....sorry folks! This is such a great site and I've picked up so much advice and giggled at so many threads I'll need to make sure each site I visit has wifi so I can still get my daily fix!
Al, Berkshire Caravans are actually only 5 mins drive away from us and are a main Bailey dealer....we thought if we bought from somewhere that close, if there were any problems (and also for servicing) we wouldn't have to trek miles back.
I believe they have a very good reputation. We have a Bailey dealer near us, but unfortunately they don't have the van we could be interested in, but Berkshire Caravans do! It's a 150 mile run each way if there were any problems, but all motorway, so we may bite the bullet.
We bought ours from Berkshire Caravans - at the time we had a Picasso with a max tow of 1300kg - as soon as we said we were interested in a van they pointed at the rangers as said that they were the only ones we would be legal to tow.
Congratulations on the new van believe me you'll love it we've never looked back.
We've never bought from Berkshire Caravans but did go to them for 2 estimates one for damage done in storage when our van was in there (they were paying) and one for damage done by a child with a boomerang on site and their estimates were out of this world. All as the bloke kept asking was whose name is the insurance in and i told him numerous times mine but that is irrelavant as we wern't going through the insurance.
Needless to say they didn't get the job another local smaller service/repair company did who done both jobs for less than the price of just one that Berkshire Caravns quoted and the storage company paid for both They didn't know it but they were happy anyway because it was cheaper than the quote Berkshire Caravans gave just for their damage.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
