i want to put an external power socket on my van to plug my lamp into in the awning i have bought a double outdoor socket i was going to screw it under the van near the edge where i put my table then drill thourgh the floor and run a cable to the nearest socket can anybody see any problems with that or have you done similar i dont want to screw it to the side of the van as it will stick out to much and i much prefer to drill plywood than the side of my van any advice welcome thanks.
I have done exactly what you are going to do a water proof scoket screw to the under side of the floor ,drilled thro the floor and wired in the the nearest socket with no problems but my van is 15 years old i dont know how you would stand about warrenty on a new or newer van

------------- take people as you find then not how others do
We were thinking of doing something like that but then decided to rewire a longer lead on the hanging light we use for the awning. We then secure the lead to the middle awning pole with plastic spring loaded garden ties, then feed the lead through the window to plug it into the socket inside the van, which lucky for us, is just to the side of the window. The window still shuts on night lock so saves us having to take the lead out every night. You could still do this with a table light.
------------- After living in my beloved van in Spain for a number of years, I
I put a 'proper' outside socket on my 1992 Swift last year.
I did consider the IP44 type socket connector under the van option as I too was a bit worried about cutting through the sidewall for the housing but having got my mates cordless jigsaw I have to say it was pretty easy.
I ran a spur from a socket in a rear cupboard via a junction box and fused ON/OFF switch and It looks pretty neat inside and out - cheap too, all bits cost about £15 total.
