I have a couple of questions so I thought I would put them together in one post!
Firstly, our van came with a full awning but there are no curtains. We would like to get some and found these on eBay but we don't know if these are the right size? Any advice appreciated.
Secondly, we've just booked our caravanning holiday at 3 sites the second of which is Windermere CC Club site. They only had hardstanding so we had to go for that. I understand that the caravan will then be on hard, level ground but is the hardstanding part large enough to fit the awning on too? If so, how on earth do I peg it down?! Bit apprehensive about this part of the holiday!
As for Windermere, I'm fairly certain that the hardstandings are big enough for both van and awning. As for pegging I use rock pegs and a lump hammer, usually with success.
Windermere C & CC is one of our favourite sites, hope you enjoy. If you have time walk into Stavely village, across fields, to visit the Eagle and Child, good food and ale.
You will need steel pegs for your awning if it fits on the hardstanding, we are going to Braithwaite Fold in September. Awning curtains are standard sizes and you can buy them from most caravan accessory shops.

We'll be in Buroughbridge, North Yorkshire for 3 nights then to Windermere for 4 nights and then Ebury Hill in Shropshire for 4 nights.
I will remember that pub and definitely go for a meal there... Will even have our bikes so I might cycle if I feel energetic!
Thanks for the help with the curtains and pegs. I've seen rock pegs on eBay... any idea how many I need for my full awning? Do I just use them on the rubber bits or on the storm flaps too?
We've never had any luck with the awning on hardstanding, we've got the proper pegs but they just wobble and come loose. We always book full grass now.
They also sell rock pegs in the campsite shop at Windermere so if you find you don't have enough (or indeed any in our case! ) you can always get some more.
Hi, we are new to this caravanning stuff this year and have only been on hard standing so far. The first time my standard pegs wouldn't work so had to go and buy rock pegs from the camp shop (stocked up with 20 for 9.99 from towsure when we returned). The rock pegs worked really well but recommend a mole grips to get them out and a metal mallet takes a lot less time to knock them in!
Don't worry about it, just need a little patience. We have found hardstanding great and have bought breathable groundsheet / carpet. We also put our curtains up for the first time last time out and it feels like you are in your own lounge!

I never have any trouble getting our awning up on hardstanding, i use rock pegs which i found cheapest to buy on ebay, got 2 boxes 20 in total of the 8 inch ones and whack em in with a mallet but im getting a lump hammer for next holiday.
most sites do sell them but the price onsite tends to reflect the fact that you need em there and then! if you get my drift.
as for where to peg them I just tend to stick one in every available pegging point and my awning dont shift.
getting them out can be difficult so i tend to try and if they dont move whack em side to side a few times tends to make em loose enough to move, i also find using a standard peg through the hole to pull them gives a bit more leverage.
oh and its julie not keith, he doesnt do awnings thats my department.
regards the awning curtains I had the same trouble (wasn't sure of sizes), so I go mother dearest to make some. I got the plastic hooky thingys from the local caravan accessory store and she made them to size. Only thing to remember is to use a lightweight material.
Awning on hard standing is the best (no muddy feet when it rains (yes I do have a carpet LOL). To peg it down I got pegs that screw in. strangly enough they look like screws that are about 8 inch in lenght. Using a cordless drill I simple screw them in. (fFANTASIC)
Anyway have fun, I will never go back to grass anytime soon HS is for me.

hi cant help with the curtains but putting up the awning on a hardstanding is easy with screw pegs ,i bought a box of 50 8 inch coach screws fitted some big washers and screwed them in with my cordless drill it cost about £10 for the lot much cheaper than the fancy ones in a plastic case .
Hi Everyone .. were relatively new to caravanning .. well using an awning really. We have the curtains and have used them once. Our question is, how do you keep the curtains (when drawn), close to the framework of the awning windows?
We were given the awning, when purchasing the caravan, not sure if there is something missing where the curtains are considered?
