ok so one of my corner legs / jack / steady is bent or twisted and it will not wind down....so i thought i would undo the two nuts and take it off and have a better look...but even with the nuts off it wont come down because the point where you wind it is still popping through the bodywork..........am i doing something wrong ? or is there a top secret mission to do this ?......thank you.

The last time I did this job there were 3 nuts and bolts. 2 about the middle and one at the front.

I took the nuts to the end of the screw thread so that the bottom of the nut was level with the bottom of the bolt. I then had to lift the carpet/lino inside the van so that it was clear of the bolt heads. Then back under the van I "persuaded" the nuts and bolt upward with a hammer until the nuts were against the steady legs. I then clamped the bolts inside the van with a Mole Wrench and then undid the nuts all the way. By leaving the nuts on the bolts when you hit them with the hammer, you will not damage the threads of the bolts. Just make sure that the bolts are level or slightly inside the nuts.

The steady legs should come away easily. If not, then push the bolts further into the van. The blunt end of an apropriate size of drill bit is probably best.

On the outside you have the hexagon where the handle fits to lower.raise the legs this shaft goes through a rectangular plate, on the other side of this plate there is a metal collar held in place on the shaft by a round roll pin. Knock out this pin and unscrew the threaded shaft, taking care not to loose the pin and collar. Refit is reverse of removal, I have just done one of mine, the roll pin can be a little awkward to access but it can be done took me about 20 minutes after raising the rear of the van to make access easier. Hope this helps.

Is the hole in the caravan body wide enough to allow you to pull the steady leg through if the leg was loose?

If it is not, then an extension piece has been added to the steady leg screw and this will have to be removed first. Probably an Allan Screw on the side of the extension.

However, I found that just removing the nuts was not enough as the steady leg had to be slid back away from the body before I could lift it from under the van. Hence having to push the bolts up into the van so that the whole unit could slide away from the access hole.
