Just getting ready for a trip to Ireland. Any advice etc. We are getting the ferry from Stranraer to Belfast then travelling all the way down the Easy Coast and back again. We have heard everything is very expensive. We are taking our two labs with us.

Hi there,

Is there anywhere specific you want to visit? If you're lookin to visit Dublin there's a site which I use reguarly called camac valley link. Beautiful and spacious site with a bus stop outside that brings you into the city centre. Great base for touring the city and surrounding areas.

We did a 2 week tour last year but arrived at Rosslare. We did the typlical tourist Ring of Kerry but went clockwise against all the tourist coaches. Here you will find some great campsites right on beaches. As for on the cheap, nothing comes to mind as it really is an expensive place and imagine it to be more so since the worse exchange rate....

We are trying to remember everything so we do not to have to pay the prices in Ireland. Someone told us to take care with the ferry as we have a Reich motor mover.

Good luck on your trip to Ireland. We have been 4 times and were going this year but having seen the prices of food etc in the supermarkets we were advised by a friend who lives there not to go as we would be broke by the end of 3 weeks. We cancelled our ferry crossing and stayed in the UK for the period.

Ireland is in the worst recession of all the EC countries so I would take as much food as you can carry safely. It is a great place but is counting the cost of even worse bad managemeent than we are and that's saying something.

Suggest that you stay in the north as the prices there are the same as UK. The scenery is superb in Donegal and all around the coast. Just go down to Dublin and stay at Camac Valley. Take the tourist bus into town and definitely do not take the car!!!

Thanks for that advice. We are touring down to Cork and then back. I think we'll take the awning out and replace it with supplies of food etc. We are only in a site for max of two days. We have two dogs so will make sure we will take plenty of their food. Dreading the price of diesel.

If you have a sat nav, treat it with extreme caution, the Irish do not seem to classify their roads to the same level of detail as they do in the UK, ours delighted in finding the narrowest roads possible.

Hi buttercup.

Some people think they are so amusing!!!!!!!!!

Noticed you are towing with a Carens like us. We recently had a big problem with ours. We got stuck in Bristol after being diverted off the M4. We were in a traffic jam on a hill and almost did not make it as the clutch started to burn. The problem is the lack of a hand brake so you can't hold the outfit on a hill without applying it completely. The car tows extremely well but I am now very carefull in traffic. The clutch soon cooled down and is now working well.

I actually find it easier for hill starts because although you have to have the handbrake all the way on the lever releases it very quickly so all you need to do is just let the clutch up to take the strain immediately before pulling the lever and off comes the break. Takes a bit of getting used to does a foot operated parking brake but I haven't found it a disadvantage. Carens does tow well and loads of little cubby holes for storing stuff.
