We have a Pyramid awning which has clips on the ends where you can attach a dedicated tie down kit. Are these any good (just looks like a plastic rucksack clip to me so not sure how strong it is) or do we just buy one of those long tie down ones that goes over the front bit of the roof?
If we get the non pyramid tie down kit is there any particular type that is better?
The plastic buckle on the pyramid tie down kit is different to others. yes, I believe, it is better to get the pyramid specific tie down rather than the full length long tie downs, which can scuff the roof.
We used the pyramid ones for the first time while in Devon this year and was pleased with them, they did give us a bit more of a feeling that the awnining was secure in a windy first half of the week.
I like this type but must admit have never used the strap over the roof type. I also think the Pyramid ones look better too.
Our Pyramid specific tie down straps have kept out Tuscany secure during some pretty windy / wet (monsoon) weather. I would not use the over the top ones as if the wind picks up I am sure they would rub.
The pyramid ones are strong . The weak link is the tie down peg coming out of the ground. Towsure stock the pyramid kit but the pegs are not great , hence i say they are the weak point.
I just use the std pegging items (mine are substantial hunks of metal that you attach a big spring to) and we have not had a problem with them moving even when the ground becomes waterlogged.
we have a pdq porch awning and use their own tie down kits and have never had a problem even in the bad weather last year they worked a treat. atb Bill
