Hello could anyone tell me if using white spirits to remove the sticky residue left from duct tape, will damage the paint work on our van please?

I used GUNK engine cleaner, the thick brown stuff in a tin use with a piece of cloth to soak the residue then wipe away, aerosol may work as well,this did not damage my caravan paintwork

White spirit is used on vans to clean off mastic so I believe its unlikely to do any harm to the paint finish.

Keep it off the windows as I am not so confident its safe there.[many solvents lead to micro crazing some months later]

For sticky labels on things I spray with WD40, works a treat so will probably work on duct tape glue.

I second the vote for WD40, I find it works really well for a multitude of things. In fact, on the WD40 website they specifically state that it "removes all traces of duct tape"

Dab a cloth in a bit of petrol and rub gently.Works a treat for us on all solvent based resitdue,but a bit smelly on your hands.

i'd be very carefull with petrol;

for one its very expensive , and secondly it can melt some types of plastics.

not to mention the carcenogenic effects of the benzine in petrol.

i'd stick to white spirit or wd40.

go easy eh?

WD40 is the way i have removed tape from carpet and gaffa tape from caravan
