Well we are going back to camping. We used to go camping for quite a few years and thought buying a caravan was the natural way forward, but no. We bought one 3 years ago and kept at it but just not what its cracked up to be so i will no longer be asking for van advice any more in these forums, will be using camping ones instead. Dont know why we didnt take to caravanning, was it the towing, setting up, having to clean up/hoover/ or what but its time to move on. Thanks for any help and advice anyone give to me

Don't want to worry you but you've still got to do that with a tent - the setup and packing must surely take longer, no?
Maybe OK if you've only got a 2-man job, but we've got a big tent and it takes almost 3 hours to setup (including airbeds etc). We would prefer a caravan but just can't afford it...
That sounds so strange to me lol. We started off camping and soon moved onto a caravan. We knew that we wanted to carry on in whatever form and considered going back to camping but very quickly realised that there was just no way we could do it.
But difference is what makes the world go round and i love watching a tent being set up as it's so much more fun to watch than a caravan being set up lol.
I guess we are half in half. Our caravan can be used as just that but if we are staying anywhere for any length of time, up goes the awning which is really a big tent and the van part becomes just a bedroom.

i dont suppose you tow the van with a motor home aswell.....love it
wev'e done the same thing, gone from tent to caravan, now back to a trailer tent, more for the cost than anything. It was costing us £400+ a year to store our van,and with increased fuel costs,we just couldn't afford to keep the van,as it only cost us £500 to start with.We now keep the tt in our garden,as we can get it in.But we just couldn't get away from the camping scene

the tent i have is big and i have put it up on my own in less than 30 mins. dont know what it is, but just prefer camping! who knows might give it another go in quite a few years time!
You have to try it to see if you like it (well thats what I keep telling my oh anyway! lol)
We keep swapping between tents, caravans and folding campers! There is good and bad with all of them. once we get back from hols in couple of weeks we are selling our little caravan, decided on a big folding camper, bit more comfy than a tent but not so much to tow as a big caravan. We have brought a new tent this year, used it not long ago, we had it up before the caravan next to us, that arrived same time, had been manovered and legs wound down, so if you pick the right tent doesn't have to take hours to put up
We have a large workshop and the wee van slots in there nae bother so it does not cost us anymore in storage fees. However if we didn't have that and it wasn't a glassfibre (watertight) van, then I I would be loathed to keep it outside in the garden or in storage somewhere.
There is no doubt that with today's large lightweight tents, you can get oodles of comfort without the cost of keeping something that you are only using for holidays.
I started with a tent then on to a caravan then on to a FC and now I'm going back to a tent Why? you ask The tents were all cheapo's so that put me off a bit The OH decided she didn't like caravanning so a 23ft Amara was too big for one and the storage costs were £340 a year and the FC was/is a stop gap for this season also looked at motorhomes and panel van conversions Now gone and bought a decent tent hopefully
yep, been there, done that. I now have the perfect set up for me - small campervan and driveaway awning or pop up tent. Works great, best of both, feels like camping with somewhere to go to watch tv, play cards etc if it's pouring. See pic in my gallery!
good idea!See my pic of what i have ordered and i do still have a tent too!I will not mention what i have ordered as i promised not to mention it on here!I think the caravan is great just as a tent is they all have pros and cons!
