Hi,
Not sure about the 504 DK, but my 542 DK does not have a filter. The filter if fitted would be on the outside of the van where the water pump is fitted to the van.
Not sure what the black bits are but you should try running water with Milton in through the pipes and taps.
I am new to this stuff so there may be better advise out there.
