Hi, I'm new to caravaning and have started to look for a caravan. Saw two on ebay which fitted my requirements i.e. one owner and no older than 2007. When i rang to enquire about the service history both sellers informed me that they had the first service done but did'nt bother with the second because they where selling it. My question is as the warranty has expired would it be too riskey to buy?  John.

Wouldn't touch them personally, you pay a lot of money for an item that if it has a problem you will then have to fork out for.  There are plenty of vans with correct servicing out there.

I can't understand people who don't get their vans serviced regularly. It is a requirement of the warranty and apart from that the van would be much easier to sell with the warranty intact. A no-brainer really!

We bought our caravan when it was just under 2 years old from our local dealer. As it had missed it's first service the warranty was not valid. We took out a 3 year comprehensive warranty through the dealer for a cost of £500. He knocked £500 off the price of the van which was already competitively priced to compensate.

We have had to claim on it when the garage door began to leak in heavy rain. The work was carried out without any problems. We almost didn't buy the van because of the warranty issue but it's price reflected that and we ended up with a van a couple of years younger than others at the same price because it had no manufactuer's warranty.

If the price is right, you could consider the vans and look at taking out a warranty policy. Make sure that it covers you for damp (some don't). I could look up who ours is with if it would help. You have to have the van serviced annually as part of the warranty agreement.

Hope that helps!
