Seen a van I really want, but its 2 hrs drive away and can't get there till sunday, would we be mad if we paid a deposit on the phone with out seeing it in real life? Its at a dealers (they have a good rep, and the chap says its mint?) its a 2009 van so cant be too much wrong?
Having kittens here!
Not sure what to do, we do tend to rush in sometimes, But then it is the exact van we want, but feel stupid putting a big deposit down without looking first, but if I don't it will prob sell being bank hol weekend!! Ahhhh don't know what to do!!!!
Mad as a hatter! First question is why is a 2009 van there? Is it new or pre-owned, if the latter then ask questions.
Is the deposit refundable if you don't like the van for whatever reason?
Why did the previous owner sell or return it?
If you know the van and are sure it is the layout you want then you should be OK to put a deposit down as it sound like the only issue is the condition. As the salesman has described it as mint, if not you will be entitled to your money back as the item is not as described.
For extra protection if the dealer turns nasty, use a credit card. As you will not have signed any paperwork then it will be tough for the dealer to refuse your money back if the van if not perfect condition.
have you been in an identical caravan before ?? that way you will know if the seats are comfy, big enough etc the washroom the correct size and that the kitchen area has the workspace and storage you require.
personally if i was going in blind id wait for the next one to come along.
BUT, if you know the mentioned factors are ok with you then yes, go for it !! if there is any damage the salesman hasnt mentioned on the phone then you should get your deposit back....
Just another thing to consider is that you will have to take the 'van back to the dealer each time it needs a service and if anything goes wrong. I'd personally try to find a 'van from my nearest dealer so that i don't have a long trek.
It does sound like a good deal and i don't blame you for being really tempted
If the deposits only a couple of hundred quid, I would do it. That's nothing to lose if it's so wrong you don't buy it. You will be so disappointed not to have it if its right.
You still have the manufacturers warranty to fall back on. Thats all you have when you buy a new van and you do that unseen.
Ahhhhhh! Yes we did it, but chap said we can have money back if anything wrong with van, We know its the van we want, have done all our research and its the same one that we nearly brought back in Feb, apart from that one was the GT, but to be honest not bothered about alloys or microwave, don't use the one at home never mind camping! Keep your fingers crossed!
No just going to look, will be ready next week end, been out and brought some stuff tho, some good sales on, got a battery and wheel clamp from 'go outdoors' just need the gas bottle now, and an awning but will sort that out after (I hate putting up awnings, but hubby loves them so might compromise get a porch one)
