Hi all we're looking at the 2010 models and quite like the look of the elite searcher can anybody tell us wot sterlings like say compared to others bailey etc
We are on our second Sterling, a 2007 Eccles Moonstone. We used to have a 2003 Europa 500. We only changed for a different layout. They are actually made by Swift and we have been very pleased with both vans. We are now looking at 2010 Sterlings but again only to change layout as our boys are getting big!
I have a 1995 europa 500L and think its a great van for its age. Small section of delamination around the kitchen area that im going to repair over the winter but thats the only problem, not a bit of damp in sight. Not bad for a 14yr old caravan!
We've got a 2009 Sterling Europa - great van, we are very happy with it. We looked at the Bailey, Eldis and Lunar equivalents but prefered the Swift group vans.
We love our Sterling too, we are glad we bought a 2007 as they no longer make ones with the L shaped lounge area which we prefer. Only 2 gripes - would prefer a large wardrobe in the washroom. There is a small one in the washroom but the large one is opposite the kitchen area. And the shower should have been made with more headroom, other than that it's great.
we have just ordered our second Sterling van the new Ruby to be delivered hopefully in December, not another Elite as there is not unfortunately a model in the range to suit our changing needs. Our dealer has bent over backwards to up grade upholstery ,curtains etc to the Elite range not a lot of others would have done this. We have had Baileys Lunars and other vans but feel the Sterlings represent good quality and value for money
Our 2008 Europa is a potentially a good van, but the amount of niggling problems, with one major issue still unresolved after almost 15 months, has really made us regret buying it, and deeply regret using the dealership.
I suggest you ensure that every pre delivery check is actually done, as it'll come with faults that are as far as I'm concerned, unacceptable. The workmanship is poor, delare backup worse, and the factory seem unwilling to make any attempt to put things right with any urgency. And when the problems arise, as they certainly will, take immediate steps. DONT be fobbed off with excuses.
If you have an hour to spare I could explain!
------------- There's nae pooches in a shroud, so spend it before the Government does it for you!
I have a 2008 Europa 495 and am really happy with it, Never have we had any regrets about buying it, It is very well specified so I would definitely recommend them.
only had two minor niggles which dealer sorted for me quite quickly so I am happy with the service I have received from them as well.
Never had a Bailey or any other van, but i can tell you about my Sterling Europa 540 (6 berth), which is now 4 years old! Thetford loo pump has worn out and i am now replacing (i blame the kids). Thetford fridge door shelf got busted and i bought a new one (it was the kids ). 'Mystery dents appear in side of van at the exact height of micro-scooter handle bars (guess who goth the blame - YUP! the kids!). Then Mr Nobody managed to damage the plastic space frame in the front bench seats (i bet you have no idea who was to blame lol). Its a family van, but somehow when you put a family in it, bits start to break. I do not blame Sterling - it feels well built and sturdy, but maybe family vans are in general not 'family-proof'? And if they were, they would be so heavy you would need a tank to tow them! I do not blame the manufacturers for stuff being a bit flimsy in our van, but i wish we could find a tougher compromise between light weight and durability. Or maybe i should just ban the kids from our van lol? My feeling is if you have children (we have very lively 10 year old twins with ADHD) you just have to accept that the van will need some bits replacing as and when they wear our or get busted! But whatever happens, enjoy your camping (all year round if possible) because this is why you (and we)bought the stupid thing in the first place!!!
