I have to be honest and say not only do I leave my battery in, but I also don't recharge it!! So far I have never had a problem, but I would like to know if I am making potential problems by doing this (or rather, by not doing it). Rightly ot wrongly, my attitude with these thing is quite often... if it ain't broke, don't fix it! So far it has worked, but no doubt there are those who have had other experience with batteries.
On a slight tangent, is there any difference in brands of battery?
We have been offered a 110mA battery from the dealer for £75 whereas on Towsure, even a 75mA (Lucas) battery is £100 - is the one from the dealer a cheap and nasty one that won't last?
And while I'm here, any hitch-locks that are particularily better than others?

Hi.
Ditto!!
Never had a prob. in many many years of caravaning.
After all you never disconnect or take the battery out of your car do you ???
dont want to sound thick but what do you use to recharge your battery.
mine is showing no charge, and we take it that thats why when we had a power cut on site one time, the battery didnt kick in and we were left without power.

many thanks
I don't even own a battery charger at the moment (see previous post!!), but I'm sure you could pick one up from any Halfords store.
One of my batteries sits fitted and connected in the caravan at all times. Our last trip out for a few months is in October so it is on EHU and s reasonably fully charged when we get home, I usually put the vans electrics on for Xmas so that we can use the fridge so it gets a boost then and we are out again the middle of February. So far in 17 years the shortest life of any of my batteries has been 7 years.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

I never charge mine up over winter, though I do disconnect it. Doubt it does it any harm at all. I do check it with a very sensitive meter, and the voltage barely changes.
