I am looking at getting back into caravans after a lay off of around two years due to health problems and my question is to you geist owners; whay do you of them? the reason being is I have had a very good look at a geist Xklisiv 559 and compared to the UK market they seem to have a much higher build quality and everything appears more solid and less flimsy compared to UK caravans. your thoughts will be appreceiated. (559 is the island bed model) cheers folk.

Hi, thats the model i'm interested in. I've seen the Australian version but hopefully am going to the North East to visit Geist for Life to have a look at one. I really like the look of the twin bedded van with bathroom across he back but the beds are too short! Where did you see the XK559?
At a caravan dealer localish to me called elite caravans. The aussie one has aircon, omnistor roll out sun canopy, 76 litre onboard water tank etc all as standard to say I was impressed was a bit of an understatement, the island bed has a reflex foam mattress so a good nights sleep is assured!!! and I love the fridge freezer what a size.

yes, thats where we saw them. We were really impressed and were very tempted, loved the fact that they had an Ominstor sun canopy. Threre are people on here that have bought from Elite and have been very, very pleased with their purchase. I wish i could have one - its our plan for a coupe of years' time when our girls are no longer holidaying with us!
We've just put a deposit down on a 565 from Elite but we don't pick it up for a couple of weeks (our delay, not Elite's).
I know this doesn't help you in any way but I'm damn excited and just wanted to tell everyone again about my new purchase
It's our first caravan so I have no previous experience to compare it with. To be honest, I find all caravans pretty flimsy feeling and I don't remember the new Baileys we looked at being any flimsier but I bow to the far superior experience of others on here who say they are great.
What I will say about Elite is that you won't get anything out of them - no discounts or any freebies thrown in. Not complaining when the van is so much cheaper than elsewhere but just a warning....

I agree with the quality of the build - we love our Geist. Ours has the bunks at the rear full size and there is plenty of room for us all. We like the fact that it has a separate little table at the rear too, so kids can do their own thing up there when we want to watch something "boring" on the telly!!
We decided to buy a caravan recently and looked round a few Baileys at a dealership in Herts, we left feeling a little disappointed at how flimsy they felt. We then happened upon Elite and the Geist caravans.... we started looking round and straight away felt they were better made, I am not an expert so this is based purely on opening and closing a few cupboard doors etc but a lot of people seem to agree the German vans are better built. Anyway, we bought the 495 and have been on a few trips and absolutely love it!
We had a problem with the Omnister sun awning but Elite were brilliant and sorted it out. As the post earlier said, Elite will not give you any discounts etc but when we went to collect our van I went round it with a fine tooth comb and managed to find a few things to complain about... small chip on the edge of the wardrobe door, scratch on the window etc. and got £100 off accessories. So it is worth looking round the van to see if there is anything. The way I saw it was if I found nothing then I would be pleased but if I didn't check and saw something later and had missed the opportunity to get some money off then I would have felt miffed!
Anyway, would def reccommend both Geist and Elite.
We bought a Geist535 from Elite caravans, and had two outings with it very pleased so far, one little problem our porch awning wouldn,t reach the ground so any ideas folks its a very tall van, also will other caravan dealers carry out service and warranty repairs more local to us near Lincoln

Hi Albut.......I have a Geist LV550 and bought a Dorema Toronto porch awning for out of season use and had the same problem with the ladder type ties nearest to the van (think it's the larger wheels that lift it up higher than normal and leave it 2/3 inches higher).
I bought extra ladder ties and and fitted them to the existing ones to extend them and this did the trick......you could do the same by extending them with rubber ties (or whatever) on the ones next to the van. There's a picture of it in my profile.
