folks dont suppose any of you have came across the usual 2 tread caravan step with a handrail attached, have seen this one on towsure http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/redirect.asp?redir=http://www.towsure.com/product/17240-Dukdalf_Mambo_Double_Caravan_Step but seems awfy expensive

anyone came across something simalar on your travels??? has to be light, strong and relatively cheap

I think you will find that they are pretty securely fixed Alan. Afterall, they are meant to withstand someone having a go with a crowbar!!!

However, I take your point in that your Mum would probably feel safer with actual handrail type steps.

Have you no engineering works near you that woud put a handrail onto an ordinary double step?

All mobility stuff tends to be overpriced and simple U shaped bit of tubing, welded or bolted to a standard double step should not cost the earth.

mike you are a blooming genius mate, why didnt i think of that, bit of half inch tube, couple of welds onto the step and allow the feet of the tail to be in contact with the ground so the weight isnt just on the weld. know of a few engineering places locally. will do that early next week

With my brother I have recently been constructing a walkway out to a viewing platform. To save anyone slipping on it when it is frosty etc, we have covered the boards with off cuts of roofing felt, the type that has tiny chips of slate embedded in it.

This is a really cheap, non slip surface that can easily be renewed if it becomes worn in years to come.

I'm sure any builders will have off-cuts lying about or keep a lookout in skips around building sites.

sorted at local fabricator, new handrail fabricated and welded on for £25, got it primed will gloss it this afternoon

got it glossed this afternoon, proper job. did a few wee footery jobs on the van too

Moffat etc was last week.
Had a great time and the weather, once i was south of the border, was fantastic.

Now back to "old clothes and porrige".
