My OH is suggesting that we have one bottle of each so that it covers all eventualities. I've not seen anyone else do this so wondering about the drawbacks

The difference between propane and butane is negligible. If you want to use gas from October to May use propane, if not use either. There's no point carrying both, as propane can be used all year round.
Again guys sorry for not getting back to you but have been to a funeral in Ireland (Dublin). What should have been a day turned out to be 2,1/2 days and cost me almost £500 but it was necessary. Anyway back to the thread I take on board the fact that why use 2 types of fuel but I have a gas BBQ for the van and one at home which would mean buying regulators. Also what is the cost difference between the 2?. Can I swap the butane for propane at shop at no extra cost. Promise to get back to you quicker this time.

Assuming you only use the BBQs in relatively warm weather carry on using butane. I asked your other two questions of a (non-Calor) supplier recently - they would accept an empty butane bottle when selling propane, and there was no difference in price between a 4.5kg butane and the identical size 3.9kg propane. Would imagine the same applies to Calor outlets.

Why on earth bother. Propane is the ONLY one you need. Save weight time and money, and just use one bottle of Propane.
I went to the NEC show on sunday and asked Calor if we could swap the butane for propane and he said yes. But he said why not go the whole hog and buy the calorlite which is nearly half the weight for the same price and dont need to pay any extra which is a great buy.

That is the way we'll go when our present bottles are empty.
