Can you leave this stuff in situ? I'm thinking particularly of the off-side, where we never put an awning. Will it stay in position while towing?

Not tried that so not sure but it only takes a couple of minutes to put on both sides and less to remove. I dare say if you had a way of blocking the edges on the channel it would stay in place but I am not sure if that would be a good idea as the wind resisitance may force the awning rail to part fromthe van when towing. It was certainly not designed with that in mind.

Cheers

I leave mine in the awning channel  all the time

Its very flexible and I can't see it putting any strain on the channel at all and certainly vastly less than a bag awning or Caravanstore/Omnistor

I have end stops in the channel to stop it sliding out of the bottom

You can buy an awning accessory for porch awnings that is a small alloy cylinder with a screw at right angles tho the side and you slide it into the awning groove and then tighten the crew OR you can use a small nut and bolt preferably stainless
