Hi, is anyone thinking of going to the Welsh Caravan Show at the Celtic Manor in Newport this weekend? It's only 15 minutes drive from me so weather permitting I'll be going. Just wondered if it's usually a big event or not worth the bother - never been to a show before so thought we'd check this one out 'cos it's so close.
If it's the same as the corresponding event held a couple of years ago at the Millenium Stadium - which to be fair, was anounced in the C&CC magazine with a warning that "this will not be the biggest show you have been to" - I personally would not bother travelling from the West Midlands. However, if you're only fifteen minutes away it may be worth a look!
Hi Bob, thanks for your reply.I got the tickets from ukcampsite for the Shepton Mallet show which will probably be a better one but with the weather being the way it is I thought I'd better stay a bit closer to home. Like I said, I've never been to a show so it will still be something different for me.
Hi, Nora. Nice to hear from someone close to home - I don't get that much response to posts normally so especially nicer to have someone near to me reply. I'm close to Lighthouse Road in Newport. Are you near to me?
I'd like to go to the NEC show too but don't know what my OH is working yet.
There was talk of having a temporary caravan site for the show a few months ago, but no one was prepared to run it. Did anything come of that after? No mention of it on the website. Come to that, if the work that has gone into the website is anything to go by, it won't be much of a success. The website doesn't even display properly in Firefox.
I googled it to try to get info on prices ,opening times etc. and drew a blank everywhere - even on the Celtic Manor website. Then today I had a service offer through the post from the Caravan Hospital in Cowbridge with an advert on the back of the letter with all the details on the show on it. There doesn't seem to be a lot of publicity on the show, that's for sure! Didn't see anything anywhere about a temporary caravan site though.

no we are near to beechwood park,
this show may be canceled due to the weather we shall have to wait and see.
Yes, it certainly seems that way - I think more snow may be on it's way too for us. We had planned, before all this weather, to go to Widdicombe Farm near Torquay tomorrow to collect mum-in-law's caravan from storage there but they phoned and said it's very bad down there too.
When they phoned they said they'd have trouble closing the gates once they opened them, don't know what they meant by that though. Dad-in-law took the message from them and he's got a tendency to get things mixed up. All the same we'll wait til the big freeze has cleared before we attempt it as it's bad enough in our area.
We went along yesterday. The roads were quite clear but it was a very low key show, whether dealers had been put off by the weather I don't know. The setting however is spectacular, a most impressive hotel. We happened to be passing on our way to visit our daughter in Swansea, I wouldn't have wanted to travel a long way just for the show itself.
Problem they have is that unless they get more exhibitors to attend, they won't get many visitors. Unless they get the attendance figures up, exhibitors won't attend. The only hope thay have for building the show up is to have free entry to get the visitors in and attract exhibitors; even if that means running at a loss for a few years. With 2 huge shows in the NEC, which is only about 100 miles away, they have a lot to compete with. The timing also goes against them as everyone recoveres from the expense of Christmas and who really wants to go out looking at caravans in this weather.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
