I am getting really fed up of this snow. First we had to cancel our week away at New Year and couldn't celebrate with our friends. Now we have had a phone call to say that the S.Y.C. rally with the annual Dinner Dance has been cancelled next weekend. (Cannot wear my posh frock now, sob!) How many more things is this snow going to spoil? I am getting caravan withdrawal symptoms since we haven't been out since early december, and are usually out at least alternate weekends. I miss being in Mooney and having different views in my "back garden".
Loving it myself I have a cub sleepover this weekend and have cancelled our expensive activities as we are going sledging instead, I have just had a fab time in the garden trying out my bubble mix for frozen bubbles its lovely and the caravan looks really cute and cosy sitting on the drive with a heap of snow on the roof.
You add extra glycerin to the bubble mix and blow them outside in the cold if your lucky they freeze, catching them on the bubble want and watching them freeze certainly works, lots of different recipes on the net to use we are trying a few tomorrow night theres a picture on the link below
We completely agree jayare. We're chewing the carpet with caravan withdrawal symptoms here - everything is covered in ice and the roads are really treacherous. We were last out end of Dec (the weekend we finished school) and it was lovely. The cold doesn't bother us (you just wear more clothes!) but the ice does. And Bertha's door is frozen up!
Today is not so cold and the stuff coming down is sleety rain, lets hope for a thaw. Now I'm worried about the handbrake freezing on, and mice climbing in and eating the cushions having read other posts on here! Will have to send hubby to the storage place to check.........
I'm really cheesed off! I do like this weather but missed doing the things we do when there is no snow. We would not be able to go away in the caravan (due to having to feed our horses) but love just going out for runs in the car. We normally go to Aberdeen and Inverness for the day but because of the road situation we havent been able to go to any of these places. It is sunny today but no sign of the snow going.
We have decided we are going to Callander for lunch and hopefully the roads will be okay as they are maim roads. I just need to get away and this seems good to me.
Cleared the drive today and the temperature actually got to +3 deg at one point! It felt warm! Took all the xmas rubbish, old bedroom furniture from daughters bedroom (that was clogging up the garage) and our uncollected refuse and recycle boxes to the tip. It was good to do 'normal' things again! Its snowing very lightly here, hope it doesn't get worse - our estate roads are still not good and cars are parked every where still. We live on a hillside so not many people can get up to their houses yet!
we caught the Dover to Dunkerque ferry at 10.30 pm on the 16 Dec 09 ,arrived in Dunkerque at 1 AM 17/12/09 straight into a snow blizzard , didnt know what to do for the best ,decided to press on and try to get through Paris before the rush hour , as we got near Paris the snow thinned out to allmost none existant , once past Paris we decided to stop and sleep in the services , woke up 5 hours later and looked out the window and got the shock of our lives everywhere was just a white sheet , but we could see snow ploughs going down the motorway ,so i put the car into 4 wheel drive and pressed on ,there was only one lane clear out of the 3 ,then we slowed to 10-20 MPH for an hour or so then we were all diverted to the outside lane there were 2 lorries crashed plus 2 cars had left the road and were down a ditch a transit van spun around , i thought if that had been back in the UK we would have been sat there for hours , we pressed on and pulled into a caravan area on the sevices it was completly empty ,so i parked against a kerb , and went to sleep woke up about midnight and looked out of the window ,all i could see was a grey wall , so i tried to open the van door ,but it would only open about 9 inches , there was a lorry parked 9 inches away from the van door , and the caravan area was full of lorries , i decided to try and get some more sleep , i was restless after that but my wife slept like a log , at about 6AM i opened the front side window and lowered my small step ladders out and climbed out and pulled out to set my wife free , so we pressed on again the car wheels were throwing snow up against the van the snow was about 4 inches thick on the front you could not see the grab handles the the caravan wheel arches were solid snow ,god knows what the caravan weighed now , as we neared Clermont Ferrand the snow had eased and the roads were ok , but it didnt last long , the next problem was ice on the wipers even with the heating directed on the screen all the time so we had to stop at every service area to clean them , to cut a long story short we had snow to within 20 miles of Montpelier , once we got rid of the snow it was like coming from hell into heaven , allthough the temperature was minus 8 right down to Barcelona , when we arrived at Vilanova we had 2 sunny days then 5 days of rain , and since the we have had 2 spells of rain lasting 30 hours and 4 or 5 sunny but cold days , we are supposed to be driving back on the 17/01/2010 to catch the ferry on the 19 ,but the weather is not looking very good at the moment , i am praying for a thaw
You have had some fun, haven't you Joecroft! Must have been very scarey at times. We are off to spain the second week in Feb and are praying for better weather, but we are taking the ferry to Bilbao so we do not have to drive thro france. Please god we do not encounter snow like you did!

You're fed up. We haven't been anywhere since Chatsworth CC site last September, due to me being in hospital. Just got back to work Jan 4th and was looking forward to our first trip out end of the month. Now that looks 50/50 as Linda was on crutches two weeks ago after damaging her knee ligament, not because of the snow though. We thought 2010 would start better for us, not so. But looking on the bright side we have our 4th grandchild due to be born anytime now
Ice and freezing temp . if you have forgotten to open the drain on your carver heater you could now be in trouble if its frozen solid . if you not using the van open the drain even if its solid it may relieve the pressure when it thaws . the drain is the white plug showing thro the carver vent on outside of van . make sure you got cold water coming through hot tap before you light the heater . We are away at the end of the month I cant wait. It actually feels warm now compared to when it was frozen and snowing. Van is on the drive so will test water and everything before we enture off and have heating on low for a few days to thaw her out!!
