We currently have a 1997 Conway Countryman which we've been very happy with but we can't stop looking at caravans. I think I've decided what layout I prefer. Although an end bathroom is brilliant with loads of room I think I'll have to go for an end bedroom because of my husbands snoring - its vital we're not all bunched up together at one end!! We know what weight we can comfortably tow.
I've found a 1994 Bailey Beachcomber 500/5 with a dealer which comes with a 12 month warranty which looks very good. Its about 65 miles from us but obviously we dont want to drive in this weather. Being cheeky now but is there anyone in Bicester who could have a look for us? I'm hoping theres someone who is wanting an excuse to go looking at caravans lol.
I've searched for that model on here and found one thread which was very positive but would like to hear from others who have/had one of these,

Friend of ours has one of those - quite a nice van, his has been in storage in France for some time now - problems? he has trouble with the blinds and his windows fall out of the channels at times! - probably because it hasn't been serviced in years - it only moves about 200 yards a season!

Strange. I have a 2004 Bailey brochure but the Beachcomber isn't in it. Only: Discovery, Ranger, Pageant and senator.

The Beachcombers were a budget range introduced in the mid nineties.
From memory they lasted for two or three years and were superseded by the Discovery model which in turn gave way to the Ranger.

I'd agree with that - OP did say 1994, not 2004.

Sorry, Altzeimers playing up again. have found it in a 1996 brochure. They did: Beachcomber, Discovery, Pageant, Senator. In 1998 they were: Hunterlite, Ranger, Pageant, Senator. Imn 1999 they dropped they Hunterlite with Ranger being the entry level.
In 1996 the Beachcomber had a good spec. MAW (MTPLM) 1088kg, 60l 3 way fridge, gas/elec water heater, sumptuous palm springs velour sprung interior upholstery. Optional oven and blow air heating. Otherwise very similar to the later rangers.

Sounds good, thanks for looking. We managed to get to our local dealer and found a 2000 Bailey Ranger 470/4 which has been well mainatained (replaced upholstery with a newer design) and regularly serviced. It has a large end bathroom which looks really good £5950.
We're wondering if we should buy locallly,

We had a 1995 Beachcomber 440/4 for nine years - finally replacing it at the back end of 2004.
Spec was good though we did add an oven, blinds and screens, TV shelf etc.
It towed well behind a variety of cars and only cost us a set of tyres and some preventative re-sealing towards the end of its time with us.
Had four new Swift group 'vans since but none have quite lived up to the Bailey, consequently we haven't held onto any of them for long.

Check for damp as Baileys of that era could be prone to it.
