Hi,  we are considering buying a 2001 Fleetwood Vanlander 500 4 berth caravan.  It has a "flip down" double bed which fastens up against the wall when not in use and also does not have the normal Truma heater.  Can anyone offer any opinions or advice on this van please?

I've got a 2001 Fleetwood Colchester 500 4 berth, had it about 5 years now. its a standard 4 berth, side dinette with end bathroom. I'm assuming its the same bodyshell as yours, Is it on a BPW chassis with a MTPLM of 1290Kg?

No major problems with mine. I keep shoving my damp meter into the furthest recesses, but still OK.

I've had to reseal a rooflight, as it started to leak, replace the spring damper in the towing hitch, sort out a bit of floor delamination, nothing a competent DIY'er counldn't handle. I don't think Fleetwood's are any better or worse than any other Caravan from that period. As with any nearly ten year old caravan, the most important thing is to check thoroughly for damp, and with a meter not just your nose!

Well thank you for your reply.  We have now decided against the Vanlander as was not sure about the idea of the drop down bed which is kept up against the wall and smelled damp.  We are going for a Bailey Ranger 440/5 1999 which is pretty small but has all we need.  We are buying it privately.  Looking forward to our first caravanning trip at Easter (hopefully)!
