Hello, just been to the pub and met up with long term friends who we have always gone to Thailand with,,,,now over 10 years running, they go back to Thailand in 4 weeks this time without us !!! as we have bought a newer caravan and a newer car,,,they really dont understand us, and think we have gone mad !!!. None of them have children, and we have a son aged 13 so finding it difficult getting him out of school to go to Thailand, tonight i am feeling quite alone and almost "not one of the group anymore" does anyone else have friends who dont get their caravan interest ?

ALL our friends think we're crazy. We are both in our early thirties and our friends we used to holiday with still like to go abroad but we have had enough of it.In the pub its hard to explain to them that we've just found this beautiful secluded site when they're telling us about the Great Barrier Reef. They say we're getting old before our time going on caravan holidays but i know its the life for us now. We've been to the far corners of the earth in our twenties and we just want to see more of this beautiful island of ours now in our little van and we are more than happy to do that.

We had a friend who was going to write to Jeremy Clarkson about us - he was horrified that we had got one of those caravan things!
Each to their own I guess!
Yes Lozzie, totally understand what you mean. None of our friends or family "get it" either, nor any of my work colleagues. Not only that but any mention of our caravan is usually accompanied by sniggering or worse. I have been called the "P" word to my face. To the point that now we dont even mention that we're going away.
I just think each to their own, we all enjoy different things, thats what makes life interesting.
I can remember smiling a few years ago watching the owners of the factory across the road from ours going off towing their caravan...

As for us and friends - well most have a van or tents themselves so we don't get the OPs problem - give it a couple of years and the OP won't get the problem either
HEHE wendywinblos, this is so true, and thighland for other reasons, i know the country VERY well "love you long time !!" which is a well known phrase there. Big thankyou to dreadnought,,,,wish you were in our pub for moral support !!! same as you we have travelled extensively, but have to listen to tales of well " everywhere" and same as you dont really talk about where we have been.

One of my friends used to have a caravan and another owns two - one sited in Wales and 1 sited in Spain! But neither of them has the enthusiasm that we do and wouldn't understand the hours i spend 'surfing' or reading anything caravan related!
