An update on our Protec cover, now about 7 years old. It still helps keep the caravan clean and is still not obviously worn. HOWEVER, it looks as though it is letting some water through on the roof of the cover as there is green stains on the roof when we reomve the cover. They clean off okay but this cleaning was not necessary when the cover was new!!
Would I consider buying another one. Yes I think I would. We've now retired to Criccieth so presumably less air pollution. The caravan roof used to get very dirty before we had the cover whilst living/storing it in St Helens. On the other hand there is probably more salt in the air in Criccieth!! Its a hard life LOL.
Very slow delivery and bad at keeping one updated on the status (ie. no updates until they told me it was going to be late after two months!)
Cover fits very well, is well made, and looks very smart. It also appears to be good quality material.
The optional "Easyfit" system employs two aluminium poles and two D-rings into which they are inserted. The poles are far too flimsy - mine snapped as soon as I applied any lateral pressure. Don't pay extra for Easyfit unless you are prepared to be very careful when using the poles!
Ordered new overall cover with new van in Nov 2016.
First sent towing cover which I did not order and have only just received correct (overall) cover, after much chasing!
Lots of excuses - did not have correct material, it's in production now, be with you soon. Don't believe them if they say they will ring you back, they don't.
Just fitted the cover, guess what? The door opening is in the wrong place!!!
Am going to speak to speak to them at the NEC, but I doubt they will give a damn!!!
Unless i was parked under trees, i wouldnt have a pro-tec cover. I used one for 1 winter on a motorhome. It was strapped down every couple of foot or so, and had ropes right over it as well. Fair enough, it stayed on in big winds, but because it 'rippled' in the wind (impossible to prevent), it wore 2 or 3 buff patches in the paintwork. It looked like the gloss coat had been missed when being sprayed!
Pro-tecs response: It hadnt been tied down properly, so absolved themselves of any blame. If it hadnt been tied down properly, it was because they hadnt put enough straps on. Which i do think they had, but rippling isnt possible to prevent, no matter how many straps you have. So, they copped out.
