Hi I am new to caravaning and having pulled the van up the drive have decided that a motor mover is in order.

Question is which one?

Which is the best buy etc best deal?

I am pretty good  at diy etc (time served sparky) so think I am quite capable of fitting it myself but having looked at the diy price and the fitted price maybe go with the fitted(no hassle).

Your views would be great.

Thanks

Mark

Hi Mark I just had the all British Rhyno mover fitted at my home for £699 was lucky to get the charger model with life time warranty. They do another one which is called lite with 5 years warranty. They fitted it in less than 2 hours and it is fantastic. The lightest on the market at 29kgs with excellent ground clearance.

If you do click the "search" button just above your first post and search for movers, there's been a lot of discussion on here about them recently which might help you.

Hi Kpnuts just seen your post. They are not far away it has a CV postcode and this is the URL http://www.rhynomovers.com/  They are really helpful, just ask them if they have any offers. The Rhyno Lite can move a van up to 1800kgs. I don't work for them, just liked the idea of all British parts and it being very light 29kgs with good ground clearance.

Hi barmer thanks for the information have just ordered the rhyno lite, hopefully fitting the end of next week, do you have to engage each roller seperately or can you do both from one side if you can`t its not that important I liked the idea of just turning the bar 90 degrees instead of winding them on, you were right about the post code they are a Nuneaton company just down the road from us.

I engage each roller separate, but it isn't as hard as winding it on. You just engage the nut and turn it till you feel resistance then give it just a little push and it's on about 90ยบ  Some people say that they have had to have electric engagement. I have my caravan up against a garden small wall but am able to leave myself a gap to get to it. When I asked about cross actuation he said it wouldn't matter really because you can leave the roller on, on that side if need be. When you disengage the roller off of the wheel it is only a light turn and it just snaps off.

Like many of you I spent a long while looking at the various products on the market. I did a lot of research on the various manufacturers in the UK and in Europe.

It was interesting to read that the next generation products are likely to include caravan tyre pressure monitors and GPS caravan tracker technology. The market is becoming overcrowded and companies will have to differentiate themselves if they are to survive.

I compared the three different types of mover, cam, winder and electically operated. I decided that the simplicity of the cam type was best for me.

I decided that I would prefer to fit the mover myself.

In the end I decided that Towsure had the best value and cheapest product. I picked it up from their shop in Sheffied and was given 5% Caravan Club discount, it cost £475. It is actually the Enduro Series II from Purpleline. The Remote control and Electonics weren't branded as Towsure or Enduro. They are actually the Ego mover parts!

I noticed that brochures for the Enduro and Ego are almost identical in size and layout, so perhaps there is some conection between the two companies.

I fitted it this weekend, I took time to study the fitting instructions and watched a very good Enduro installation video I found on Youtube.

Things to beware of ?

1. Take time to decide on the best location to fit the electronics, you dont want to lose under seat storage space if at all possible.

2. Make sure you have all necessary tools before you get started, such as a torque wrench and crimper for the cable connections.

3. Mark the ends of the left and right motor cables, I used red and black tape.

4. The instructions don't suggest fitting a fuse in line between the battery and the isolator switch. I think this would be a good precaution.

Update on mover.

Went for Powertouch HD mover in the end. Got it on price match direct from Powertouch matching catterick caravans at £649 diy saving just under £300 on the Powertouch price of £935.

Took just under 3 hours to fit and test.

Good idea to watch the Enduro video on youtube as these movers are similar in fitting.

Couldnt find any prices on the Rhyno movers.
