Hi there folks
my van currently has 185 x 65 x 14 wheels, I need a spare as one didnt come with it.
I have seen a 175 x 65 x 14 brand new on ebay, could i use this as a temporary fix or do i need to buy the exact same size etc as a spare?
Thanks
M

Your risk but it would get you to a tyre fitters no problem, not sure if it is legal , but space savers are legal on a car

It depends on how far you intend to use it
We had to tow from Spain on the steel spare after kerbing a tyre

May be as well to check with your insurers first before you use a tyre that does not conform to the manufacturers recommended specification.
The 1st number in the Tyre spec is the width of the tyre in millimeters. Question is whether a smaller width tyre is Ok for the weight of the van?

I was advised by my dealer when I raised the point with them, that I should make sure that any tyre put on the van was the same size and ratio that was on the van at the time.

Apart from being the wrong tyre size, what about the wheel, is that the correct offset & pcd? I suggest you get a tyre/wheel of correct size then if you do have to change a wheel you can carry on at normal speed.

I'd be very careful about buying something as important as a tyre from anything other than a reputable dealer and certainlyI'd get one the same size ie the correct size for your van.
A tyre going wrong on a van is just too important an issue to make any false economies on in my view.

sorry to say but with a caravan they need to be all the same size and width .not saying it will cause a snake but it will not help.good point on the insurance aspect. ------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

Give a few Bailey dealers a call, a steel spare wheel can't be that costly. I reckon one or two will have a rim they can sell you.

I think I only paid about 20quid a few years ago for a new bailey wheel at the dealers, then got a tyre fitted across the road at Kwikfit.

Ring local independent Tyre Fitters from Yellow pages and ask if they have a rim in the size you want. Small one man outfits often have a few used rims lying around and if you buy the tyre from them you will get the rim for just a couple of quid.
It worked for me
