Why would you not want to put a wheel clamp on a caravan? I admit it'll not stop the scum bags taking it, they took our last one & that had everything on it but it'll make your investment more secure & won't cost the earth.

Its not that I dont want to use one , its just that I haven't got one and don't really want to buy one tbh I dont think I'd use it much anyway .
when not in storage We stay onsite most of the time so wouldnt use it then.
Googling for clamps they vary hugely in price , from about £30 to £200 and I've no idea what is a good one ? if they all do the same job why such a price difference?
With having just bought the caravan and paying out for the storage and insurance , it all mounts up and now the extra expense for a wheel clamp.
I thought that in a secure storage site with a hitchlock and cctv it should be secure enough already.
As previous poster said, caravan club ask for one only, so your hitchlock should cover it, so long as it is a proper one made for the job.
Must say though, we use a hitchlock, locking corner steady and a wheel clamp and they all go straight on whether parked in storage, on our drive or on a site. Better safe than sorry. I think cc ask for whatever device you use, to be fitted at all times if the van is unhitched and left unsupervised. Something like that anyway
Some insurance companies do give a discount if you fit the devices they specify, we have hitch lock, clamp and corner steady lock.
When it comes down to it, the thief is going to go for the easier option, and so is more likely to take a van with less devices to remove, than one thats going to be time consuming to get mobile, and light up like a Christmas tree whilst being towed with something like an alarm/tracking device combination.
Just because a van is on a secure site with CCTV doesnt mean that its not at risk of being stolen. There are plenty of profesional thieves out there who are capable of wiping a yard clean of several vans in a matter of mins, as some dealerships have found to their horror in the past, and its not just the financial loss of your van, its all the upset and loss of sentimental things that may have been inside it at the time.

We're insured with C&CC and with our old van (1999) only had a wheel clamp but no hitch lock. They were fine with that.
With the new van we did think about going the whole hog & having a tracker fitted but then realised that we don't keep anything of personal value in there & everything else (van & contents) would be replaced under the insurance so we didn't bother. The new one has alarm, hitch lock & wheel clamp.
I have just read the info on the stolen caravan database. Most of the vans stolen appear to have been fitted with hitchlocks and wheel clamps.
Some had alarms ,some tracking devices, some all of these, and one had even had it's wheels taken off !!!! The phrase ' waste of money' springs to mind.
i've never used a wheel clamp on our caravans before. but now we've gone a better caravan i've decided i am going to use both clamps when in storage and on site.
10 minutes putting them on could save a lorra lorra heartache.
We were given a Milenco wheel clamp which is great but very bulky and heavy. I bought a cheaper one from Towsure which is much easier to use and does the same job.
