Hi everyone I just looked at my credit card online and noticed that E&L have taken £139 from my account ,I have not received an email or renewal form in the post. Now I thought this was a cheek ,I then went online to E&L and got a quote for the same cover for £79 over the previous years they have done this to me ,and I have cancelled and took out the new quote but the difference this year is much bigger.I know they tempt new customers with a better quote but £60 I think is a bit much.I will be phoning them tomorrow to cancel and renew and give them a piece of my mind.I have been with them for over 12 years and have never made a claim so much for customer loyalty. If it has happened to you do not put up with it,it might also have happened to you and you have not realised .Anyway forewarned is forearmed
Same here with direct LIne. Its a pain having to do it online each year but I save a fortune. It provides a good opportunity to review my cover. Its surprising what is and isn't covered when you look at the detail. Things like the kids bikes are still on there even though they don't have them any more etc.
Always look carefully at the detail of the cover when looking at caravan insurance. The cheapest are not necessarily the best, but you may only find this out if you need to claim. If you are going to change, consider the Caravan Club insurance. They were extremely fair when we had our van stolen.
Despite some poor comments in the past regarding E&L, I've found them fairly good and handled a claim with no issue recently.
Just a thought though to 4teejay; I applied and did all on-line with E&L and it was only chance I caught my renewal notice as I'd originally set-up with an email address I generally no longer use; any chance they could have been in contact with an older email address?
Somewhere without realising it you will have, either verbally or in writing, given permission for the insurance co to retain your credit card details & automatically renew. Obviously a bad idea because you need to shop around for the best deal at every renewal. If you want to stay with your existing company they will normally price match your lowest quote.
Whether you are arranging new cover over phone or online listen/watch very carefully because at some point you will be asked whether or not you want the company to retain your card details for automatic renewal.
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day. They obviously must pay out sometimes, but it is the number of times they don't pay out that gets them their bad reputation. They have an awful reputation for horse insurance as well.
I really find it difficult to comprehend the responses from members who have not had any actual dealings with this company but immediately reject any mention of their name, please do not give an opinon until you have had a practical experience, just for the record I am no longer with this company but only because they do not want to cover my make of van which is their perogative .....
I have once used E & L, but for horse insurance, and as soon as i found out that my horses were classed are uninsured using them by lots of vets i promptly cancelled my policies!! My vet would treat my horses, but rather than claming from e & l, i would have had to have paid up front and then claim, as most of the time they riggle out of paying out!! My friend was 10k out of pocket being insured with them, not good!!
