Some of my awning poles have a little bit of rust on them, nothing major, but I dont want to get any rust stains on the awning canvas .
Whats the best thing to do to clean them up and stop it getting any worse.

Not sure. They would normally be plated with something to stop rust. Oil will protect them but will damage the awning.

Try coating them in car wax/polish....

try a pan scruber ,to remove rust ,then spray them with W,D,40. then polish of with pledge,and dry duster ,workt for me

Get the rust off with a green scourer and then spray with fabsil.Dont use oil as it rots fabric .WD40?? i would recon that will too.

Thanks everyone, will give it ago with a pan scrubber first . Its not loose rust, no flaky bits , just looks like the shiny protective coating has worn off , on pole ends where one slides into another mainly .
my 11 year old son just suggested painting the ends with red oxide paint ? What do you think?

Just thought ,I bought some silicone spray to use in the awning rail this weekend , will this be of any use on the poles ?
