A tricky little problem, this! We have got a bailey Sancerre and, for the first time in our caravanning history, have no little chest of drawers at the front. It seemed fine in the showroom, but we've been away twice - and found we have nowhere to pop those wine glasses between slurps!! No problems in the awning, as we have those stick in the ground holder thingies!

Any (polite) suggestions?
We had a similar problem with our Swift Challenger 530 which had wrap-around seating. Our van had a bit of a ledge in the window, but we couldn't stand cups/glasses on it because of the curtain track.
We made a board from a length of laminate flooring (in a similar woodgrain effect) and stuck some little 'feet' made from dowelling in each corner of it. Then, it could rest in the window ledge - bridging over the curtain track.
It was then possible to stand mugs or glasses on it, provided that they weren't too tall. (Not usable with the blinds down).
We sold the van last week - still have the board though which isn't needed in the new one - LOL!!!
Do you have bed slats fitted to the front of your van that can be pulled out a few inches and bunched up to make a small compact area?
One of our old avondales had this problem and we left the slats out on the rail for about a foot, then placed a melamine tray on the top to make a table for mugs and glasses, no problems with height either, as its the same level as your bed bases

Perhaps we've always had the table up of drunk in the awning.
I'm new to this and have, so far, only had one weekend away in my van, but I'm pretty sure I had a "table up of drunk" too
My van comes with a little fold up table/big shelf at the front window end but it's only supported by a single flimsy plastic strut - OK for glasses but if you lean your elbow on it it doesn't look too permanent! I think a quick trip to B&Q is called for.

Cheers,

I just can't believe I wrote that!! (If only I could get the emoticons to work!!)
It should have read: " Perhaps we've always had the table up or drink in the awning."................ although the original was much better :-)
Perhaps I was in training at the time. We have to train for our B.H. Polesworth Abbey Church Caravan Club weekend away, otherwise I get left behind with alcohol consumption.
also you can lift the cushion where the chest of drawers would be and set your glasses there , that works as well,, we did that b4 we got the folding table
We decided that the table Bailey supply is too large bulky and heavy for our liking so I took the top off and replaced it with a piece of MDF which is just the right size for our purpose. It doesn't weigh 4 tonnes now so its easier to manage.
SWMBO had already bought a table from a well known supermarket beginning with M for under a tenner which is just the right size for drinkies.
Both of these stow in the space allocated for the original dining table in the van. So we use the bigger one for meals and then stow it and use the lttle one for drinkies.
I quite like the large table in the Sancerre, but I can imagine that some years down the line, the fold over bits at the edge will weaken. Anyone experienced any problems with these yet?
only probs we've had are the size and weight DSB. I much prefer the flexibility the new arrangement gives. We can eat in the awning and have drinkies later in the van ;)

I have problems with weight too - but not the table!! I'd keep the original surface though, in case you ever wanted to sell the van. Go with it if it suits.
Behind the back rests there are usually boards to protect against condensation on the walls. These have gaps and you can make an L shaped shelf with just two pieces of timber. One end goes down the gap leaving the shelf resting on top of the board. Well you can in my Van and which is what we did to make a shelf to put our morning cup of tea on in the bedroom as the bed room shelfs in the van only hold an egg cup! Maybe you can do that in your van?
In the alternative........... give up drinking............(well maybe not!)
