We purchased an Ace Milano X250 Ducato based Motorhome from Glossops in March 2008 only to find it had an inherent reverse gear shudder. Glossops have been less than helpful; their after sales service is appalling. To date we are still waiting for a resolution to the gearbox problem.
Glossop caravans do have 'a bit of history' on here, but a more recent report (if I remember correctly) showed a little more promise + we haven't had a lot of criticism over the last couple of months - so perhaps things are getting a bit better.
is the problem with the manufactors of the motorhome, think i would have done some homework on the model to check if there were any out standing faults, these faults do not take long to raise there head, hope you get it sorted out
Glossop Caravans have always been brash with promises of wonderful customer service but rubbish on delivery. Even back as far as 1980 they were the same. I thought that they had improved recently, it seems though that the jury is still out judging by the other posts. I hope the gearbox is sorted out for Frank and the awning arrives for glynnisb. That would certainly give the Glossop image a polish.
Surely it is Fiats problem to deal with? It's over 2 years since you made the purchase and the problem has been known for at least that length of time. As has been said some research would have revealed this problem for potential purchasers? And how would the resolution of a motorhome gearbox problem in any way influence whether Glossop Caravans Accesories Dept would deliver an awning on time?
Absolutely not. If you buy faulty goods from a retailer, you must persue THEM under the sale of goods act, NOT the manufacturer. Of course, they will then persue the manufacturer and so on.
Tell them you are rejecting it under the sale of goods act. They will try to say you can't. You can. Don't take no for an answer, and if they give you any stick, take the tradings standards number with you and call them then and there, in front of them, and ask their advice. It will help if you can produce a letter stating calmly the reason you are returning the 'van for repair or replacement, and giving them a (polite) timescale in which you require a response/replacement.
Too many dealers try and put people off by pretending that they can't claim under the sale of goods act. YOU CAN. ALWAYS!

It's possibly worth looking at the exact terms of warranty. Strictly speaking, if you have purchased the vehicle from Glossop then Glossop should be accountable. The 'but' is, if you are not happy with Glossop is there provision with the Fiat warranty to take the vehicle elsewhere. With Bailey caravans, you can have warranty work done at any approved Bailey Servicing agent, if thet are part of the 'Transient Warranty' scheme.
The sale of goods act, as I remember, ensures that one can get warranty satisfaction for a period of six years from the date of purchase. It has been featured on various TV shows in the recent past too and they confirmed the six year period, so yes, you should be going to Glossop for repairs to your gearbox. I would also, as suggested by other people, contact the Trading Standards department of your local council and let them know what is going on.
Fore warned is fore armed after all.
