Hi all, we're looking to replace our old van with something a bit more recent (1998-2000ish), and are looking at vans with the normal front seating / bed area, and a 2 seat dinette / bunk area opposite the kitchen, with end bathroom. In quite a few of these vans you have to sleep across the front, but we want to sleep fore and aft. I would appreciate your views / experiences on good vans and those to avoid. Cheers. Del.

You could always sleep on the front seats singley.  We often did this to save the bother of getting the bed out.  Most of the singles are big enough.  Our van was an Abbey Cachet, a special edition based on the Abbey Oxford.

Thanks David, however if the singles were long enough to sleep on then presumably the full bed would also be long enough? Or am I missing something?

P.S. the plan is to use it as a 2 berth with the dinette as an occasional third.

Not always the case unfortunatly, a lot of vans with the 6ft front bench seats that can be used as two singles have a chest of draws often fitted to a pull out table between them, so the only way you will make a double is to sleep across the van.

Having said that though, in some vans it is possible to remove this chest of draws, but you then obviously loose valuble storage space and the question remains of where toput them unless you leave them at home.
