Hi, can anyone advise me on how you clean a flysheet. We have an outwell tent and the inner fly sheet has a crystalised film over it which is salty. This was in the kids pod and i can only assume it is where they were sweating. Can i machine wash them does anyone know. Thanks
hi molly slaisbury, well i have washed flysheets before in the washer but you must make sure they are absolutley bone dry before you put it packed away with any other bits of the tent. anything inside is fine. If you are refering to anything on the outside of the tent you may be better off washing it with just a tent cleaner and a soft brush or cloth and then re-proofing. Common sense----outside items need a good waterproofing, inside ones are ok left. Anything else get back and Iw ill try and sort it. cheers gary
The flysheet is the outside waterproof cover of the tent, ie the roof and sides. You can't wash this part with anything other than plain water without affecting the waterproofing.
The bedroom inner tent with bug mesh doors , is this what you want to wash ?
if its a bedroom inner tent that you mean , yes you can wash it in the machine , no problem .Cool gentle quickwash cycle , non bio liquid, then a second rinse to make sure all traces detergent is fully removed.
thank you very much for replying to my fly sheet cleaning question, have put it in the wash but there are some mouldy patches which i cannot get rid of, at least it smells better. We bought our tent 2nd hand and i think the previous owners put it all in the wash!! how do you re-proof, do you just spray it by hand - which i can imagine would be a bit hit and miss to get it all covered properly or is there another way.
Thank you
Angela
Hi angela, i'm assuming you have washed the inner bedroom tent , and still have mouldy patches ?
spray the mould with dettox mould and mildew remover about 33 in supermarkets, or astonish mould &mildew spray, from poundland. , this will kill the mould and may get rid of all the stains too if you are lucky. leave it onfor a few minutes only,if the stains are going to come out it will be almost instant.
then put it back in the washer,no detergent , and give a further second rinse .
You say the outer flysheet has also been in the machine?
Never known anyone to do this, but I guess theres always a first time .
If the tent is leaking , you could try painting it with fabsil tent proofer , and resealing the seams with seam sealant.
