I'm trying to buy a spare wheel for my van and it's proving trickier than I imagined...
I know the tyre size but places that sell these things have wheels with different PCDs (which I've never heard of before). It's basically a measurement of the location of the stud holes in relation to the hub and I've found a method of working it out but it requires taking the wheel off. With the van in storage, that's not easily done and PCDs are quoted only a few mm different - I don't trust myself to measure it properly.
I've e-mailed the main dealer (it's a Geist, so there's only one official importer) and they're not replying. The manufacturers website doesn't have that much detail and the dealer I bought it from don't seem to know but have offered to sell me a spare for £155, which is about 3 times the price of everywhere else (and I have to drive 150 miles to get it).
Any suggestions? Or should I just risk it and go for this one, which doesn't even mention a PCD?

I think you also need to know the offset of the wheel as well as the PCD I think this info is usually stamped on the inner side of the wheel
Hi, I sometimes wonder, that if you buy the correct Tyre for the wheel , could the AA or RAC put it on the wheelrim for you ??, on the Roadside, if needed ???.....(just a silly thought)......
Hi nelmo. www.Mobi-tyre.co.uk. Telephone no. 0800 055 6099. They come out to fit with no call out charge. Not used them yet but am planning to. I'd give them a ring and ask for advise

Werner.
I phoned the AA and asked the question. Still not sure if I got an answer! LOL! They said they covered the car you were in. If that was attached to a caravan, then that would not be left at the side of the road if your car broke down. I asked specifically if they would change a tyre in the event of a flat on the caravan I was towing, they said no. So what now?
If you have an old spare, you could take that to a garage and get a new one the same size.
My local tyre supplier actually came out and checked I had the right one, and put it back on the A frame for me! If you have a tyre place pretty near to you, go and ask them. They will know.

Unfortunately, I have nothing at the moment (new van didn't come with a spare).
Off to the storage site at the weekend to try get the wheel off and measure up...fun, fun, fun...

Will be watching this thread with interest!
I will also be watching for any posts relating to this question. I have never had a tyre go on the caravan, and I'd rather assumed that if it did, I could ring for someone to come and change it, like I do with the car. I would find the whole process a bit physically demanding, having had two replacement shoulder joints and with the knees scheduled in to be done when the government can afford it (). Do Mayday (Green Flag) change wheels on the caravan? Please say, "Yes!", someone!
Nelmo - Not only do you need to get the correct PCD you need the correct offset and the correct size centre hole. You cannot guess any of these dimensions, your best option if you are not confident to determine these is to take one of your wheels to a tyre dealer or trailer dealer and I am sure they will advise you what you need.
