am i right in thinking you can buy strips that go on the awning rails to prevent them ? if so could someone give me a link to purchase some.

Yes you can buy them - they cost around £15. We have just put them on our Bailey and they seem to work well. We have a cover on over the winter months but thought this may be a worthwhile investment during the summer whilst the caravan is standing on the drive. Unfortunately, as d-i-l ordered them on our behalf, along with her own purchases, I don't know the name of the firm that we got ours from but they are readily available from E-bay, Towsure etc. Or alternatively google "anwing protectors".
