Walking around a few camp sites recently I have been surprised that most caravanners leave the external cover over the Truma Ultrastore or similar (water heater) ventilator outlet in place. This could cause overheating or for condensation to drip back into the van. Further, leaving it on invalidates any guarantee that may still subsist in relation to the water heater.
Just wondered why folks leave it on?

Only needs removing when on gas....... advice repeated on picking up vans when purchased. How would the manufacturer prove whether it had been on or not?
will investigate further,i have never removed the cowl when using the heater on EHU.it does get very dirty behind it.only took it off the one time the EHU went on site for a couple of hours and we had to use gas for water heater, fridge and fire.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I only ever use ehu .The only time the cover has been opened is when the service engineer services the van,I was told when I bought the van that it only had to be opened when using gas
Only needs to be reoved when using it on gas. As stated earlier the heater will not fir up until the cover is removed, and on my van will also not fire up if the window above the vent is open.
Thanks for your comments. Checked my instructions and it clearly indicates on page two that you must remove the cap when operating the heater. No distinction between gas and electric. Then on page three it just mentions removal on using gas. I seem to have a number of manuals that offer contradictory instructions for bits and pieces. Anyone else noticed this with instruction booklets?
