Hey don`t worry I still get excited every time we go away in ours and we are in our 5th season with the van.
I was so excited when we got our new van I took pictures on my phone and showed them to people I work with. I think they thought I was a little bit loopy.
Yes definitely! I kept going outside just to sit in her, still do sometimes. It doesnt matter how old your van is, I love to see an older, much loved van that has been personalised. Ours is Carrie (van) - not very original I know ...
Yes we got really excited about all 3 of our 'vans. Our 1st one was 30 years old and dh had a great time re-doing the electrics and doing it up a bit. Our 2nd was my dream 'van in our budget at that time so i was really pleased with her though she never had a name. When i waiting to order our new 'van i was listening to the Abba Movie cd and the song Honey Honey just seemed to sum our 'van up perfectly lol. So she is called Honey and oh how she thrills me lol.
She's almost a year old now so we took her in for her service on Monday and i missed her so much. I don't think i ever go in her without telling her how much i love her lol.
Our 'vans give us so much pleasure so of course we get attatched to them :)
I'm sure your 'van will give you loads and little thrills just from seeing her lol
I still get excited seeing our van sitting on the drive when i get home from owrk or whenever i look out the window...it's such a lovely feeling. Doesn't matter that it's old, it's yours and you love him/her and thats all that matters. I hope you have great times in your 'new' 'van. Post some pics when you've doen him/her up. Ours is called Dippy...suits our daft family
I didn't get excited when we got ours as it was all done in a big rush (1 week from looking at it and deciding we would have it to bringing it home) - I just stood inside it and thought "Sheesh, what a mess" as it was really dated and had some damp in the bathroom. However, three weekends and a couple of odd hours saw a complete transformation inside and out - I love spending time in it, and it was one thing I kept when I split up with my ex. Whenever I see it now I feel proud that it's all mine.

I have a very temperamental personality - 50% temper and 50% mental
think i had more kittens than a nympho cat when i brought mine home from the dealers as I had never towed before. even yet until I have done the 1st 5 miles and the checks at that point I am not totally relaxed towing
We bought our first van 4 years ago, a little 2 berth Avondale Perle. To say we were excited is an understatement cos i did loads of caravanning as a child with my mum and dad. We went to Prestatyn for May Day bank holiday in it for our first time away. Currently on our 3rd van, a 5 birth Avondale which we bought last year. Its big boys (and girls) toys! Off to Red Lion Farm Site near Stafford in it later today for the weekend. Cant wait!
We were really excited when we got our 1st (old) van & again when we changed altho I think the first is probably the most special. It's a bit like having your first child - you just can't describe how it feels to anyone else. Only those who've been there & done it can really understand.
Sounds like you've got an excellent opportunity to put your mark on your van & make it 'really' yours. Hope you have fun doing it
Our van had been sitting in storage in France for nearly two years following the death of it's owner. His son in law who I worked with told me about it, that it had been brand new when his FIL bought it from Glossop in 1989. I bit the bullet and bought it without having seen it. We went over on a day trip, and were amazed, under storage it was covered in dust but it was as good as new inside, the oven had never been used (and still hasn't) the shower was never used. All the gizmos etc were there, Aquaroll, waste container, plates, cutlery the lot. We went back the following week for a long weekend, towed it to the municipal site in Dinan and gave it a good test. We have moved our storage up to Normandy now, close to Le Brevedent as it makes life easier for us to pickit up there and tow than having to drag it up from Brittany.
I am sure you will have loads of fun with your van.

I have three sides, left, right and wrong - which one are you on?
My first van was 20 years old had all the mod cons but was a proper lemon. The previous owner did a good job in disguising all the bad bits & it ended up being riddled with damp. I still used it for a couple of seasons then sold it for spares on ebay. The second one is even older at 30 years old. It's weird but I don't care it still does the job even though it doesn't have all the mod cons of the other one. Best of all it's dry with no damp at all. Hope to be away in it soon then again over the summer holidays.
Loved her, went luke warm, went off her, hated her, had an affair with a trailer tent, now divorced her and married the TT, thank heavens. Each to their own

It's a really exciting time, hope it all works out and you enjoy it. Good that you've got local storage; I reckon we'd still have ours if we'd been able to store it at home for easy packing, quick getaways etc.
