Before I get too far with my restoration, I would like to know that my gas water heater and fridge are safe as they probably haven't been used for many years. The original copper pipework has been damaged so I will need to replace that but how would I go about testing these appliances? Should I take it to a dealers and have them tested or is it something I can do myself?
Water heater is: Carver Cascade MK1
Fridge is: Electrolux 212A
Any advice would be appreciated

I think you have to go to a LPG qualified and certified person.
I have a domestic Gas-safe engineer - used to be Corgi - and he wouldn't touch the LPG stuff (said he could go to jail!) but he said you can do it yourself!
It needs a hydro-static check. A dealer might do just that and charge you over the odds? - it's a 5 minute job but ..........
There is no reason why a competent person can't plumb in the gas on a mobile caravan (providing it is not hired out) or service the gas equipment. But for piece of mind it may be a good idea to get a mobile caravan service engineer to do a specific gas check on your caravan when you are ready

Thanks for the link Eddie, I have emailed a couple of people listed near me.
While I'm on the subject of gas, does the internal gas pipework have to be copper like it was originally, or could I get away with using rubber pipe (like the type which connects between the van and regulator)? Are there any safety concerns over this or should I just use copper?

Ah ok I'll go for copper in that case. Is copper pipe easy to work with/cut/connect up? Wondering weather to attempt it myself or call in a professional lol

8/10 m copper comes on a roll & if you buy the correct hand tools such as bender,& cutter its not to difficult.I did my house central heating in 10mm micro bore tubing
