It looks to me like part of a fold out step, possibly originally bolted to the underneath of the doorway.

You are better without it and just use a standard caravan step. These can always be used for other jobs where you have to reach up to do a task.

  dont think its a step as the tread bit moves about  and theres no way of stoping it moving. the origanla step is still in place

Never seen anything like that and I have been caravaning over 30 years so I dont think you need it, whatever it is. Take it out and save weight.

It looks like a caravan leveller to me. Is there a large screw type thing that goes with it? Take a look at the Bulldog leveller - it might be a similar thing to that?

I think you may find that it is a leveler: you put it folded on the ground with the van tyre on the tread then there should be a bolt that fits in the centre bottom (as shown) which you use to wind the wheel off the ground to level the caravan.

There are a lot of flat pitches so how much you might need it would depend on where you go, at the end of the day you may find that off-cuts of wood might suit you better and be lighter to carry.

  thanks everyone Its staying home then I am sureif needed there are much lighter levelares out there this thing is about the same weight as the awning  i cant lift it so hubby said it. I know the places were we camp and cant see any need for it there.

   Now that out there lss weight so i can take more cloths lol

it is a caravan leveler as i have one but as you say they are really heavy. drive the wheel onto it and turn the screw.
