Just got back from Bron-Y-Wendon who have wi-fi access. My wife said why don't I get a laptop to "surf web" to keep me quiet. I'm a member of several fishing forums & here. What would I need that won't cost the earth. Just want basic pc. Also how do you access internet as I use Virgin fibre optic b/band at home. How do you pay for mobile access etc..

i now use a O2 dongle pay as you go,2 for a day/15 for a week.cost 30 for a dongle.also have the main one vodafone dongle and that cost 15 a month on a 18 month contract.3G for this you can surf for about 8 hours a day if no large downloads are made.15 a month too much??? no the clubs are charging 7 a day and more.if you get vodafone double check as the first two sent were faulty and had to be changed.get one and it plug in and go.there will be odd sites that have a reception problem as do phones. i also have the wireless light on the lap top to pick up free WiFi.

Hi pikerwoods -

Regarding equipment, muchh depends on your budget. If all you want is to access forums and email and not bothered about super fast computer and graphics then any cheap laptop or netbook would do the job for you.

With respect to access if the site offers wi-fi all you need is a wireless enabled computer, which most are now. Some offer free access to wi-fi but most charge. Might also be worth looking at mobile broadband on a stick. If you do a search on here you should find quite a few discussions on the topic.

Access via a dongle is cheaper than using a site wifi ...provided you can get a signal. So it may be worthwhile having the facility to use both just in case there is no signal.

Tried the online signal tests and none of the sites i book can get a decent signal for mobile broadband.

One site wanted 15 for 3 days access, Would rather just use my phone.

Post 1997 licence holder?

Max tow weight = Cars gross laden weight + Caravans gross laden weight.

These 2 figures must not exceed 3500kg. And the Caravans gross laden weight must not exceed the cars UNLADEN weight.

Unless the manufacturer has set a lower limit.

What mobile phone do you have and is it due an upgrade? The newer Smart phones such as the HTC Desire allow tethering to a laptop or netbook with no extra charge up to your monthly allowance. It may not be as quick as a dongle and is subject to good phone reception as are the dongles but may be worth looking at. (btw Apple Iphone charge extra for this)

In addition the new Android operating system 2.2 will also allow the phone to be used as a wi-fi hotspot so other devices could use it without cables trailing everywhere.

Just another option to confuse you - sorry

Hi,

I have one of these http://www.idealworld.tv/  Ubisurfer,it has unlimited internet for 12months and thereafter you can pay 29.99 a year for unlimited access again.  If all you are wanting to do is surf the net and and visit various forums and this would be excellent.

I have had mine now for about 4 weeks and absolutely love it, I always get a signal and have not had a problem with anything, although the loading time is slightly longer than my home pc.

Sandra.
