Hubby and me were sat chatting last night going through our list for getting batterys charger surge protecour leads ect for the caravan. anyway we thought whats all this stuff for just for the lights and cold water pump we dont have hot watre. In the end we wondred how fesalbe it was not to bother frige cook ovens gas we have lots of lights from the tent we can use and as the waters only cold anyway would going back to filling a sink with a kettle be that hard. we dont tae a TV and can fined a cheep wind up radio.
I would rather wait and get a biger batterys and bettre qulity things later in the year when pennys allowe than by the cheepest now anyone think were daft.

depends on your fridge mainly, some need a 12V supply to work the electronics or light the gas, my last van would have been fine with no battery, it was a peizo push button to light the fridge, this one is an electronic ignition.
other way is use the fridge as a col box, freeze milk etc? my fist van had a mains only fridge, but freezing milk/meat etc could keep it cool enough for 4-5 days in summer.
Can't see any problem , other than tim already said about the fridge. But would guess older vans will have the push button ignition and modern ones be electronic.
Our battery was dodgy when we first got the van, we often ended up with no lights and water pump working after the second day, no problem . We had a hookup so used a clip on light , and always have spare UFO battery lights handy anyway. used kettle to fill sink .
We replaced the battery with a Land Rover one from a scrap yard and all works fine now.
the fridge is push button so looks like were ok. found a radio £1.99 in home bargins bright pink with flashing lights takes a couple of AAA batterys so music sorted. just as a back up will freez the milk and ice blocks incase theres any problems

can see your logic and yes it is perfectly possible to live without leccy, i did it for years in my tent days plus if I am away somewhere i cant get a mains hookup i essentially live the way i did tenting, 2 waterbottles, 1 for drinking, 1 for washing. leave the aquaroll and wastemaster at home, just use a bucket for sink drain. i am fortunate i can charge up the van battery at home but some camping lights do just as good a job
well were going for it I think I would rather wait and get good qulity things sorted for next years and use some of the tent camping stuff for the rest of this year.
