looking for advice i am going to see a coachman 460/2 some distance from where i live so i have had to rely on photos and e-mails its a 1997 and is discribed as excellent but for £1700 it seems rather cheap, im going with my trusty damp meter so any tips would be greatful.
hi there we bought a coachman 460/2 at the start of june and it looked good on the visit so we bought it ,there isnt any part of it we havent had to replace due to total damp which was well disguised as we didnt know what to look for,we did know floor was spongy but knew that was fixable,my advice would be look up at the screws holding up pelmet,if rusty there is water in the wall and water coming in,feel at the bottom of the door and see if the wall is soft also the inside of the cupboards especially at the front corners.
in saying that it will be a good van when we are finished ,we have been working on it for weeks and have been taking pictures for fix it club we regret not having a nice dry van ,but are enjoying doing it up and with the help of fix it club and wizard have been making good progress ,we have resealed now all rails ,lights etc etc and are rebuilding the inside with new wood.
it is a good van the coachman and we have no regrets buying even with the damp ,its roomy for a two berth,i hope its as good as described ,we paid £860 for ours ,was advertised for £950 but ours is 1992 so probably different on the inside,so far we have spent another £500 doing it up but if we get a few years from it i think its a good buy, good luck with your purchase
We looked at a Coachman VIP only last week which had been reduced by £1000. On the face of it it looked absolutely clean and in good condition. Then OH found an air vent on the outside of the van adjacent to the bathroom wall, which didn't seem to correspond with anything on the inside of the bathroom itself. On closer inspection and a bit of prodding, the damp and softened walls corresponded exactly with the outside vent. We couldn't work out if the damp was coming in from something the odd air vent was hiding, or whether the air vent was put there in the hope that the air circulation would dry out the damp. Whatever it was we steered clear! Jenny
