Pulled on to pitch at the weekend to realise that the car would be parked where there is no view to the south and hence the astra satellite at 28.2. I usually stick the suction sat dish on the roof of the car and bobs your uncle. Had to have a re-think results as follows:-
Take one 6" metal doggy drinking bowl (1.59 from a shop beginning with 'w' Turn it upside down and stick dish suction mount to it. Point at satellite and secure using 2 awning pegs to hold down the metal rim.
Worked a treat in the bin with the tripod and it will save the car roof from a rubber mark!
I've now 'upgraded' it to a bigger dog drinking bowl (1.99 same shop) drilled holes in it at 120 degrees so awning pegs will go straight through it!
It was certainly a conversation piece at the site over the weekend because we were pitched right at the entrance so you couldn't miss it!
We carry a spare plastic drinking bowl for the dogs so they weren't too deprived jhsw :)
I solved another problem today too. I've been wanting a sun canopy which is 3m long, 2m wide will fold up small and will be waterproof and sturdy given that the manufacturer of my caravan would invalidate warranty if I leave anything in the awning channel
I popped in to a tarpaulin manufacturers today and asked the question 60 quid later purpose designed sunshade made out of lorry trailer side curtain material in a creamy colour and I'm a happy camper!! Evidently this stuff is stormproof, relatively lightweight and tough as old boots. 12 quid for 2 adjustable awning poles (max height 7'6") with spikes on the top to locate in the brass ferules to retain the corners and a guy rope to go on teh spikes and bob is your proverbial!!
Yep it works fine. Obviously if there were a wall or other obstacle in the way it would have to be higher up, but other than that when you think of the distance to the satellite from the earth 6ft won't make much difference in the scheme of things.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
